Riccardo Azzoli dominated the smart EQ fortwo e-cup weekend at Vallelunga, winning both 14-lap races and setting two fastest laps in the process.
Azzoli, driving the No. 34 car, won the opening race from pole position before battling his way through the field in the reverse-grid Race 2 to complete his sweep of the event.
Having set the fastest lap in qualifying, the 34-year-old sprinted into a comfortable lead ahead of Vittorio Ghirelli, who finished second, and Giuseppe de Pasquale who finished third.
Azzoli won Race 2 after an entertaining side-by-side scrap with Gianluca Carboni’s No. 10 smart EQ fortwo machine with the positions only decided on the penultimate lap.
Carboni arrived a previous winner at Vallelunga, having taken victory on the inaugural smart EQ fortwro e-cup weekend back in May, but settled for second on the series’ second visit to the Rome region.
Completing the podium was Fulvio Ferri, ahead of Ghirelli and Marco Mosconi.
Ghirelli’s brace of podiums means he continues to lead the championship standings, despite Azzoli’s dominant weekend.
Azzoli nonetheless has moved up to second in the points ahead of de Pasquale, but still has a 26-point gap to bridge heading into the penultimate round of the season at Magione next month.
