Dorna Sports has added an additional Free Practice session for the second round of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup at Red Bull Ring, increasing track time on Saturday.
Free Practice 3 will take place at 8:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, giving riders experience of the track conditions before they head out for the E-Pole session later that day.
In the opening round at Sachsenring earlier this month, E-Pole was the only session on Saturday, taking place almost 24 hours after Free Practice 2.
This meant that riders had little experience of track conditions before their all-or-nothing E-Pole shootout for pole position.
Times from all three practice sessions, including the newly-added 20-minute FP3, will be taken into account for choosing the Super Pole starting order.
FP3 is currently only scheduled for the Austrian round as the remaining MotoE rounds at Misano and Valencia are both double-headers, and thus running to a different event format.
However, a statement released by organizer Dorna Sports confirmed that: “Further assessments may be made after the event at the Red Bull Ring as the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup continues to evolve.”
The Austrian race will take place on Aug. 9-11. Niki Tuuli leads the standings after taking victory in the inaugural race in Germany.
