The Electric Production Car Series could use Pirelli’s GT4 tire when it gets underway later this year after carrying out initial development with the compound.

Electric GT is currently working with Pirelli during the testing stages of its flagship series, which uses race-prepared Tesla Model S P100Ds.

The Italian tire giant has carried out some development with the previous version of the EPCS Tesla, according to Matteo Braga, its Circuit Technical Manager.

“We are working with the Electric Production Car Series,” Braga told e-racing365. “That was the first challenge for electric production cars in GT racing.

“We are in contact with other manufacturers, so it is something that we are looking for.

“For the moment, they’re trying to show that electric cars can be an alternative for motorsport. Not only the green alternative, but they can give the same emotions and provide the same competition as standard motorsport.”

The P Zero DH, Pirelli’s GT4 compound, has been utilized in development so far and could be used when the series holds its first race, which is set to be at Jerez in November.

The tire specification is already used in several GT4 series around the world, including SRO Motorsports Group-run championships such as the GT4 European Series and British GT Championship.

“For the moment, they have just presented the new model of car a few weeks ago,” Braga said. “We did some development with the old model but the new one is quite different.

“As soon as the car is defined, we will start and we will see if we need a specific [tire]. For the moment, we are using something from the GT4 range. We are on exactly the same range.”
