STARD’s Projekt E electric rallycross car successfully made its race debut in a special event in Bucharest last weekend.

The Projekt E demonstration car, which uses a Ford Fiesta Supercar body and chassis with STARD’s electric rallycross powertrain, took part in a street race in the center of Romanian capital Bucharest last Saturday.

Local celebrity Dani Otil drove the car for its race debut, competing in the final round of the Campionatul National de Super Rally series.

“This car is crazy fast!” he said. “It was an amazing experience, and a really intense weekend.

“Inside the car you’d think you are on a Playstation. But when you get to see the videos from outside, oh my God!”

Otil managed to improve his time by 13 seconds after three runs on the 1.55-mile track to finish 16th overall in the 39-car field and comfortably lead the electric car category.

While it was the car’s first race participation, it has run on several other occasions in recent months, first in September’s Projekt E launch in Latvia before a test by Hayden Paddon and a media event in Austria last month.

“We are very satisfied with the result which was a first test for us under true racing conditions including a simulation of a customer driving the car, instead of our usual test drivers which know the car in depth,” commented STARD CEO Michael Sakowicz.

“Dani practically jumped into the car just for the race, and did a perfectly professional job, step by step improving his pace and showing that there was still huge potential if he just had more track time.

“I think he really liked it too as he literally didn’t want to get out of the car.

“We have successfully demonstrated that all aspects, the car, its driveability, charging, are working already perfectly.

“It was an important step In our project. There is more to come as well. It was also great to see how huge the interest was in the car. Everybody wants to drive it.”
