HWA Racelab has become the first team to unveil its vehicle for Extreme E, ahead of the all-electric championship’s launch in 2021.
The German organization, which is behind Mercedes’ ABB FIA Formula E Championship program, will be presenting the vehicle at the Krone E-Mobility Play Days in Speilberg this weekend.
It comes off the heels of a successful “shakedown test” in France and also at the Red Bull Ring.
While teams are allowed to develop their own powertrains and elements of bodywork, it’s understood HWA has initially opted for the standard package, which is available to all competitors in the first season of competition.
“We are delighted to be able to present the prototype of the Extreme E car to the public,” said HWA CEO Ulrich Fritz. “Not only is the size of the car spectacular, but the key figures and initial impressions are also very promising.
“HWA RACELAB has an exciting period of testing and racing ahead of it.
“It is not often you get the opportunity to be involved from the outset when a new and visionary sporting format is brought to life. This makes us all the more excited about, and committed to, the Extreme E project.”
The 400 kW electric off-roader will compete in some of the world’s toughest climates, with a location in Greenland confirmed as the first venue of the planned five-race schedule.
