Simon Evans will start today’s inaugural Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY race from pole position, with the grid having been decided based on Free Practice times after qualifying was cancelled.

The Kiwi went quickest in Friday afternoon’s 40-minute Free Practice session with a time of 1:32.618 around the Ad Diriyah circuit near the Saudi capital Riyadh.

Qualifying, which was scheduled for 7:55 a.m. local time on Saturday, was cancelled at the last minute after rain forced a schedule change for the opening ABB FIA Formula E Championship event of the season.

Formula E Free Practice 1 was also cancelled while efforts to sweep the track of standing water were made during the originally scheduled I-PACE eTROPHY qualifying session.

Bryan Sellers will start from second on the grid in his Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing car, while the second row will be made up of Jaguar Brazil Racing’s Sergio Jimenez and Caca Bueno.

Local driver Bandar Alesayi was quickest of the Pro-Am runners in sixth overall, ahead of Alice Powell in the VIP car.

The first I-PACE eTROPHY race is set to get underway at 12:50 p.m. local time and will last for 25 minutes plus one lap.

RESULTS: Free Practice
