Anthony Beltoise will drive Jaguar’s VIP car in the I-PACE eTROPHY race at Monaco later this month, the manufacturer revealed on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old Frenchman will drive an electric car for the first time when he steps into the I-PACE SUV in Monaco on May 10-11.
His father Jean-Pierre won the Monaco Grand Prix in 1972 although Anthony is a distinguished driver in his own right, with three starts at the 24 Hours of Le Mans to his name.
He has spent the last few years in European and French GT4 championships and has considerable previous experience in GTE and GT3 machinery.
“Taking to the streets of Monaco is always a privilege and I’m eager to get on track and compete in my first ever electric race,” he said.
“I’m not quite sure what to expect having never raced in an electric vehicle, but the plan is definitely to move my way up the field during the race.
“It will be a special occasion for my family to follow in the tyre tracks of my father who won the Monaco GP in 1972.
“The level of competition in eTROPHY is really high but I will definitely have my eyes on the podium. I’d like to thank Jaguar for the opportunity to compete in this innovative and history-making championship.”
Bryan Sellers currently leads the championship after his win last weekend in Paris, although the top four are separated by just 20 points.
