The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY will award more than £500,000 ($660,000 USD) in prize money for its inaugural season, series officials have revealed.
The new all-electric championship, which kicks off later this year, is set to feature up to 20 identically prepared I-PACE race cars on weekends supporting the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
It will include Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Katherine Legge, who was announced as the first confirmed driver earlier this week, with additional driver and team announcements set to be made in the coming weeks.
According to championship manager Marion Barnaby, the prize money will be distributed both on a race-by-race basis, as well as an end-of-season prize fund, with full details to be released in the near future.
“It shows that Jaguar is investing heavily in this championship. We’re here with the eTROPHY,” Barnaby told e-racing365.
“[With the prize fund], the drivers can look to get back things like their travel budgets. There’s all kind of scenarios you can look at.”
Barnaby said there’s “quite a few” announcements set to be made through the summer months, including the 2018-19 calendar.
The eTROPHY will feature on ten of the 12 Formula E weekends.
“We’re just going through the final logistics now and the overall calendar,” Barnaby said. “That will come out shortly as well.”
E-racing365 understands there’s been interest from existing Formula E teams to add I-PACE entries to its program.
