The ABB FIA Formula E Championship has announced another partner, Austrian technology group voestalpine.
As a result, Season Five will see the ‘voestalpine European Races’ be inaugurated as a new race category, offering a separate European based competition within the overall Formula E Championship structure.
The start of the voestalpine-backed European initiative will begin at the Rome E-Prix on April 13 and incorporate later events in Paris, Monaco, Berlin and Bern.
The mini-series will be structured around these five E-Prix only and see the driver who has collected the most points in all the European races be crowned the first Formula E European champion.
The winner will be presented with a trophy which will be produced by voestalpine special 3D printing technology, and will be presented after the Bern E-Prix in June.
“Together with Formula E, we want to develop tomorrow’s electromobility further, preparing these pioneering technologies for mass production,” said Wolfgang Eder, chairman of the management board of voestalpine AG.
“We also want to continue encouraging technology transfer between automotive suppliers, manufacturers, and developers.
“Through the voestalpine European Races we intend to present the end customer—who will use these mobility solutions—with the vision of an environmentally friendly form of mobility, one which is increasingly becoming reality.”
