New BMW i Andretti Motorsport signing Maximilian Guenther says he is targeting podiums in his second season in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.

The German was poached by BMW after an impressive initial season with GEOX Dragon, which included a brace of fifth place finishes despite being dropped for three races in the early part of the season for Felipe Nasr.

Now, Guenther says that signing for BMW has given him a renewed focus as he prepares for the 2019-20 season.

“Basically after the [last] season the interest in my person increased. I was contacted by BMW, we had a conversation and things developed,” Guenther told e-racing365.

“I had my first test in the new car at Calafat for the coming season and then, as I said, things developed in a good direction and I’m finally part of the family and of course very happy about this deal.

“I can say definitely as a BMW driver my goal is to score podiums, to win races and definitely in the next years, my ultimate goal is to win the Formula E championship.”

Guenther believes that BMW i Andretti Motorsport will provide him with a more stable platform to showcase his capabilities during the coming season.

“This is different for me coming from a small team now to such a big team there are different resources, more people that you work with and everything very well structured,” he said.

“Right from the beginning I am feeling very familiar, confident inside the team and we are pushing all together in the same direction trying to make the package as strong as we can for the season-opener.

“So far there are many new faces for me, but something that makes it more easy is definitely that I can speak a lot in my mother language.

“All-in-all it’s a very nice group of people, very professional and I am really enjoy working with everybody.

“I think things are looking positive, definitely. I feel good in the way we are working at the moment. Of course, you know it’s business as usual, you try to all work together to make the car that you have as quick as possible.

“Yes, for the moment, or since the beginning, I am certainly feeling very confident and we [are] pushing in the same direction.

“This is the philosophy that I have, and the team has as well because we all have the same goal and that’s why I am feeling so good inside the team because we are all having the same message.”
