Jerome d’Ambrosio is set to drive with Mahindra Racing in the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E Championship season after testing with the team recently.

E-racing365 can reveal that the Belgian drove a Mahindra M5Electro at Calafat earlier this month and is set to join the Indian team for his fifth season in Formula E.

He left Dragon Racing in July after working with it since the start of the championship and looks set to replace Nick Heidfeld at Mahindra, who is likely to take a reserve and development role with the team.

It is understood that d’Ambrosio was unhappy at Dragon’s positioning to replace him with test and reserve driver Maximilian Guenther at May’s Berlin E-Prix.

D’Ambrosio was also publicly criticized by his own team principal Jay Penske after being involved in a collision with teammate Jose Maria Lopez in New York City.

The Belgian is expected to conduct more testing with Mahindra next week and could be announced at the team by the end of the month.

In addition to d’Ambrosio, Pipo Derani has also tested for Mahindra recently.

The winner of last weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is known to be interested in a potential drive in the series.

This could run alongside with his recently announced 2019 deal with Action Express Racing.

Good time to make a recap and write an article about the FE silly season. I’m lost with all the changes that happened so far…
