Jose-Maria Lopez is expecting to remain at Dragon Formula E for the fifth season of the ABB FIA Formula E championship.
The Argentinian is close to reaching a deal with the Jay Penske-owned team that would see him confirmed at least through the upcoming 2018-19 season.
Lopez joined Dragon at the second race of the current season in Marrakesh after Neel Jani parted ways with the American squad after just two races.
Since then Lopez has claimed three points-scoring results at Marrakesh, Punta del Este and Paris.
“Everything is pointing to staying here [at Dragon] and we just need to agree some contract stuff,” Lopez told e-racing365.
“I like it when I start a challenge to finish it and I think we can still do a lot of things with the team and I want to keep it going and try to succeed with them if possible.
“I think it is the same from the team too and I hope it will just be a matter of days before it is all confirmed.”
Lopez outlined the task faced by Dragon as it readies its Season Five challenger, the Penske EV-3, and looks to take on a field now made up almost entirely of major manufacturers.
“It is true that the more Formula E develops the harder it will be because more manufacturers are coming and I think it will get more competitive,” he said.
“We are doing many things and I am sure we will take on more people and be more prepared for next season. It will be hard but we have good people and nothing is impossible.”
As revealed by e-racing365 last month, Lopez’s teammate Jerome d’Ambrosio will not continue with the organization into next season.
