Reigning Blancpain GT Series champion Raffaele Marciello will test for HWA Racelab at the Marrakesh rookie test next weekend, getting his first taste of Formula E machinery.
The Italian will run alongside HWA test and development driver Daniel Juncadella at the test on Jan. 13, following the second ABB FIA Formula E Championship race of the season.
It marks a return to single-seaters for Marciello, who won the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2013 before competing in GP2 Series and serving as test driver for Sauber F1 Team.
He has since made the switch to GT racing and became a Mercedes-AMG factory driver ahead of the 2018 season.
“This will be my first outing in a Formula E car and I will also be driving for HWA Racelab for the first time,” he said.
“I am really looking forward to it. I will try to help the team as much as possible and to learn as much as I can during the test. I can hardly wait to get in the car.”
Added team principal Ulrich Fritz: “We are pleased to announce Raffaele and Daniel as our test drivers for Marrakesh.
“Raffaele has been closely associated with our team for a long time. In recent years, he has shown his class in GT racing. Prior to that, he was European Formula 3 champion with one of our engines in 2013.
“With his experience, I am confident that he will provide us with valuable input at the test. The same obviously goes for our official test and development driver, Dani.”
