Robin Frijns led second practice for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship race in Hong Kong after the Envision Virgin driver set his fastest lap right at the end of the 30-minute session.
Frijns turned in a time of 1:09.221 to jump ahead of Free Practice 1 pace-setter Oliver Rowland by a margin of 0.257 seconds.
Many of the drivers who impressed during the day’s opening run returned to the sharp end of the order in FP2, including Andre Lotterer who placed his DS Techeetah machine third on a 1:09.499.
Edoardo Mortara jumped up to fourth late in the session with a time of 1:09.523, while Rowland’s Nissan e.dams teammate Sebastien Buemi, who classified fourth in FP1, managed the fifth-best effort.
Sixth overall was Sam Bird in the No. 2 Envision Virgin car, while Jean-Eric Vergne came through in seventh in the second DS Techeetah machine.
Despite lighter cloudy skies during FP2, a heavy rain shower at the end of the preceding Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY qualifying session meant the track was still wet in places which resulted in drivers fighting for grip around the 1.15-mile circuit.
However, the session remained relatively clean with a handful of drivers making only light cosmetic contact with the perimeter walls.
Further down the order, Mitch Evans brought his Jaguar to a stop on-track early in the session with a suspected driveshaft issue, while Felipe Nasr only completed a handful of laps after the Brazilian glanced a wall and damaged his Penske EV-3.
Qualifying for round five of the 2018-19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship takes place at 11:45 a.m. local time (10:45 p.m. Saturday EST).
