Geox Dragon Racing has confirmed Antonio Fuoco as its new test and reserve driver ahead of the 2018-19 FIA Formula E Championship season.

Fuoco got his first taste of an electric single-seater during the Season Five Formula E test in Valencia last month, in which he set the 11th fastest lap out of 22 drivers on the third day of testing.

Dragon team owner and team principal Jay Penske elected to contract Fuoco as test and development driver, as well as to attend races as the team’s reserve driver.

E-racing365 reported last week, following the announcement of Maximilian Guenther as Dragon’s second race driver, that Fuoco was likely to fill the team’s test role.

“I want to drive in the Formula E Championship because the level of the drivers and teams are among the highest in all of Motorsport,” Fuoco said.

“Racing on the streets in the center of some of the most interesting cities in the world is also a very exciting challenge for me.

“I think the all-bew Season Five Formula E format is very intriguing, and the Gen 2 Penske EV-3 not only looks cool but is very challenging to drive.

“I enjoy this challenge; it is a lot of fun. I hope Geox Dragon can finish with great results this season, and I will do the maximum to help the team succeed!”

Penske added: “We are very excited for Antonio to become an integral part of the organization.

“We have a lot of work to do to build on the momentum from the end of last season and are making rapid progress towards our goals.

“I expect Antonio’s capabilities, feedback, and intuition will help us quickly achieve these objectives, and I am looking forward to seeing the results of our efforts.”
