North American endurance racing star Pipo Derani will drive for Mahindra Racing in next weekend’s Formula E rookie test, as the latest driver confirmed for the season’s only test day.

The Brazilian driver previously conducted a private test with Mahindra but will compete in the rookie test for the first time this year when he drives the M6Electro in Marrakesh.

The test is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, the day after the Marrakesh E-Prix.

“The opportunity to test again for Mahindra at the Marrakesh rookie test is one that I am very much looking forward to making the most of,“ he said.

“Being able to contribute to a proven race winning team like Mahindra is the perfect introduction to Formula E and I am very grateful to Dilbagh Gill.

“The test will be a crucial one for the team and I hope I can contribute with the experience I gathered over the years working with great engineers and manufacturers.

“I have met some of the team already this week in the UK and have had simulator session time to ensure I am as prepared as possible for Marrakesh.

“I have been looking seriously at Formula E for a few years now and I see this test as another important milestone in becoming more involved in the future.”

Derani currently competes for Whelen Engineering Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and has previously won the series’ three biggest races: the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and Motul Petit Le Mans.

Mahindra’s sim and development driver Sam Dejonghe will drive its second car in the rookie test.
