Pedro de la Rosa expects the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E Championship season to have even more competitive action than the recently concluded campaign.

De la Rosa, who serves as sporting and technical advisor for DS Techeetah, anticipates a further closing of the field now that the first season of the current rules iteration has been fought out.

Last season saw all bar four of the eleven teams take a victory and only two teams, GEOX Dragon and NIO, fail to register a visit to the podium.

“I expect even closer differences between teams than this year because every manufacturer will have had another year to actually get closer to perfection, so it will close up more,” de la Rosa told e-racing365.

“Performance gains will be smaller compared to last season and it will be a matter of perfecting every area.

“The performance steps you make on a proven powertrain now are very small so you are just trim a bit. DS has been working very well so we will see but we will keep pushing because we want to stay on top.”

De la Rosa, who has 104 Formula 1 starts to his name, described the manufacturer testing work, which is currently being finalized ahead of official homologation procedures by the FIA next month, as evolutionary.

“Everything is going positively because everything is an evolution for next season because the revolution came last season when we had the Gen 2 equipment and powertrain,” he said.

“I think that everyone is in the same boat and we are looking at gains in key areas as usual like software and some vehicle dynamic parts of the car.”
