German engineering giant Bosch is gearing up to supply key powertrain components to the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in the near future.

Bosch, a global technology supply company based out of Gerlingen, near Stuttgart, could work with an existing team supplying MGUs and inverters.

It currently has a significant involvement in the motorsport industry through its supply of customer components ranging from ECUs to sensors.

Bosch also supplies all current Formula E teams with electronic cooling pumps on the Gen 2 cars.

It is expected that Bosch will work with an existing team for a future campaign as a key component supplier. It has relationships with a multitude of manufacturers that include both Mercedes and Porsche.

The company has a bespoke branch dedicated to EV technology called Bosch Mobility Solutions. This majors on powertrain elements for commercial vehicles and connected mobility.

Bosch established a joint venture to manufacture electric motors in 2011 with Daimler AG. The partnership was known as the EM-motive GmbH and was based at a facility in Hildesheim, near Hanover.

Earlier this year Bosch acquired the full business and assumed control of the initiative.

Bosch can only work as an official supplier to an existing manufacturer as registrations for the sixth and seventh season of the championship have already been completed.

Registrations for manufacturers are only final made officially valid after the homologation of the car for the following season is completed.
