Former Dragon Formula E team manager and engineer Nigel Beresford has been recruited by DS Techeetah ahead of the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E Championship season.

Beresford, who officially joined the team this week, will work alongside senior management from both the DS Performance and Techeetah elements of the reigning teams’ champion.

He is believed to have replaced David Clarke who is understood to be joining a rival team next month. Clarke is currently in a handover period to Beresford at DS Techeetah’s headquarters in Paris.

“It’s really nice to get the opportunity to get back in to Formula E especially with the championship winning team,” Beresford told e-racing365.

“The approach came out of the blue for me but it was good timing.

“I stayed in touch with what was going on over the last 18 months or so and I’m really engaged in Formula E’s challenges, so it feels good to be working for DS Techeetah in this role.”

Beresford, a French language speaker, will bring a vast amount of experience to DS Techeetah having worked in the industry for over 40 years.

As well as roles at the Tyrrell F1 team in the 1980s and early 1990s, Beresford is mostly associated with Penske having been an integral part of its IndyCar and sports car successes in the 1990s and early 21st century.

The Dragon Formula E operation was essentially formed by Beresford in 2014 and he initially had an engineering role before also taking on team management duties.

Beresford then took a break from racing in March 2018 after he and Dragon parted, but will return to tracks in his official team manager position at the Ad Diriyah E-Prix this November.

DS Techeetah’s commercial manager Keith Smout said that Beresford’s appointment was a “significant one” due to his experience and standing in the industry.

“Having worked with Nigel at Dragon in season three I know first-hand his methodical way of working and all the great attributes he brings to a team,” said Smout.

“Nigel has a well-deserved strong reputation in the racing industry and joining us at this time is a significant and positive move as we look to consolidate upon the recent title success we’ve enjoyed.

“The new season sees some significant new manufacturers joining the championship and we will be going all out to make DS Techeetah even stronger.”
