Romain Dumas and the Volkswagen I.D. R broke the record for electric cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Sunday with a time of 43.86 seconds.
The record-breaking run comes just three weeks after Dumas and the all-electric VW prototype set a new overall record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Dumas’ time at Goodwood was 3.48 seconds clear of the existing electric record, set in 2013, while the all-time overall record still belongs to Nick Heidfeld and the McLaren-Mercedes MP4/13 Formula 1 car which set a time of 41.6 seconds in 1999.
“Goodwood is an absolutely fantastic event and I am more than happy that we won in front of such a great crowd of motorsport enthusiasts,” said Dumas.
“The hill climb track is short but often dirty and therefore you should definitely not underestimate it. In any case it is a great honor to drive here at Goodwood.
“You meet so many fantastic drivers, and the cars and motorcycles here span a century of motorsport. It is one of a kind.”
