Automobili Pininfarina has revealed the first images of its new PF0 hypercar, which is expected to be formally launched in concept form at the Monterey Car Week later this summer.
The new luxury electric hypercar, which will take input from Mahindra’s Formula E contender, is stated to feature a top speed of 250 mph, accelerate from zero to 62 mph in less than two seconds and have a range of more than 300 miles.
It is slated to go on sale in late 2020, following a vehicle dynamics program undertaken by Mahindra Formula E driver Nick Heidfeld, who has joined the project.
“We have a specific strategy in place to develop road car technology inspired by motorsport,” said Pininfarina CEO Michael Perschke.
“Nick Heidfeld has more experience racing in Formula E than any other driver and we are delighted that from next year he will help deliver race-bred, electrifying performance in PF0.”
Heidfeld said the chance to join the Italian manufacturer to develop its line of electric cars is a “fantastic” opportunity.
“I will continue to race next year and I am looking forward to sharing my motorsport knowledge with the new engineering and design team at Automobili Pininfarina, which will support their ambition to create beautiful sports and luxury cars offering electrifying performance on road and circuit,” he said.
The Mahindra-owned Automobili Pininfarina was officially launched in April, where it announced plans to “sustainably develop” and produce fully-electric ultra-luxury cars in low volumes.
North America is likely to be the company’s largest market for sales.
“Pininfarina has an unprecedented heritage of delivering cars that are both beautiful to look at and technically innovative. Creating this combination in the first Pininfarina-branded road car is a dream come true,” said design director Luca Borgogno.
“The design of PF0 will espouse purity, beauty and innovation. Working closely with Pininfarina SpA we have created three new images that give prospective owners an exciting preview of the design features we will introduce on this incredible hypercar.”
