Forty electric road cars competed in the second edition of the 24 Hours of Oschersleben last weekend, with a Tesla Model 3 winning after completing 487 laps.

The race is held as part of the eco Grand Prix series and is open to electric road cars with no modifications, requiring no previous racing experience for its competitors.

Teams have to balance on-track pace with charging strategy, with a number of recharging stops required over the course of the 24-hour race.

This year’s race, held on Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30 at the German circuit, was won by a Tesla Model 3 entered by Eco Factor 2.

It was driven by a Ukranian crew of Oleksandr Demian, Yuriy Arabadzhy, Sergii Velchev and Ruslan Skulimovskyy.

Second place went to a KIA e-Soul that finished 15 laps down, while a Renault Zoe completed the podium.

While Tesla was the most common brand amongst the 40-car field, with 11 Model S entries and a further 11 Model 3s as well as a Model X and a Roadster, the remainder of the grid featured a wide variety of EVs.

It included the Renault Zoe, KIA e-Niro and e-Soul, Volkswagen e-Golf, Jaguar I-PACE, Opel Corsa-e, Hyundai Ionic, Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Peugeot iOn.

Compared to last year’s race, which was won by a Tesla Roadster, this year’s field saw the additions of cars from Jaguar, Volkswagen, Peugeot and Mitsubishi, at the expense of a lack of BMW and smart entries.

Accounting for the time spent recharging in the pit lane, the winning car had an average speed of 30.7 mph (49.41 km/h) after completing 736 miles (1185 km).

Real numbers from real comparisons, at last! This event is fantastic. Tesla should sponsor another one at Laguna Seca. Thanks E-Racing365 for covering all this new stuff. Cheers!!!
