Dragon Racing has confirmed it will replace Neel Jani with Jose-Maria Lopez for the remainder of the 2017/18 FIA Formula E Championship season.
The American team has submitted Lopez’s name alongside regular driver Jerome d’Ambrosio in the official FIA entry list for the third race of the current season at Marrakesh next weekend.
As revealed yesterday by e-racing365, Lopez will make his return to the series after completing a rookie campaign with DS Virgin Racing.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to the challenge of Formula E in season four with Dragon,” said Lopez.
“I have good experience from season three, and I’m confident that we can achieve strong results as the season progresses.”
Lopez’s best result with DS Virgin came in Paris last May, but he should by then have scored a first win after spinning away what looked to be a sure fire victory in Mexico City last April.
Jani split with Dragon after just one event after a brace of 18th positions in Hong Kong.
Dragon was the only team to not score any points in Hong Kong and a succession of issues and internal changes have compromised its start to the season.
