Electric GT has announced that Rebecca Jackson has joined the Electric GT Drivers’ Club ahead of the inaugural season in 2018.

Driver, broadcaster and journalist, Jackson has raced in multiple motorsport categories including The Dubai 24 Hour Race, Road to Le Mans and most recently the Mini JCW Challenge.

Jackson tested the all-electric Tesla Model S EGT development car this month at Pau E-Circuit during Electric GT’s inaugural Day of Light; a day of celebration of all-electric innovation and showcase of the EGT headquarters, including the new all-electric eKart and eSports series that will support the main Electric GT races throughout the first season.

Electric GT has attracted a number of experienced drivers as the new zero-emissions motorsport category prepares for the opening race in mid-2018. Drivers such as IndyCar’s Stefan Wilson, WTCC racer Tom Coronel and single-seater ace, and Alice Powell will join Jackson in the Drivers’ Club, while ex-F1 drivers such as Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Karun Chandhok and reigning Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi have all tested EGT’s challenger as it completes its development programme.

“I’m so pleased to be joining the Electric GT Drivers’ Club ahead of the inaugural season,” said Jackson.

“I’ve driven the Electric GT car and I am impressed by its performance. I’m no stranger to all-electric road cars and this fully race-prepared machine is something spectacular to experience.

“It’s a great challenge to master the unique characteristics of an electric racing car but I can’t wait to get behind the wheel again soon.”

The announcement follows confirmation that SPV Racing, the first team to officially join the grid for the 2018 season, has signed Finnish driver Emma Kimiläinen from the Drivers’ Club. Kimiläinen joins the team as official test and development driver as the team prepares for its all-electric debut next year.

Electric GT CEO, Mark Gemmell said: “Today is an exciting day as we share the news that Rebecca has joined our fast-growing EGT Drivers’ Club. We are proud of the people that we have attracted to our Drivers’ Club and to see that Electric GT is a championship that excites drivers. That’s exactly what we want, as we prepare to go racing and to excite the world.

“We have some terrific talent in our EGT family. This week, we also saw Emma Kimiläinen signed by our first racing team, SPV Racing, as test and development driver. That is a real proof of concept for us, that the Drivers’ Club is working and providing these talented racers with an avenue into the championship. We will have even more exciting news in the near future.”
