Chinese electric car company NIO has taken the wraps off the ES8, a seven-seater high-performance electric SUV.

The unveil came during the first-ever “NIO Day” at Beijing Wukesong Arena last week.

A number of innovative features, including a battery rental subscription package, new charging experience, comprehensive driver assistance system and AI system, highlight the manufacturer’s second road-ready vehicle.

The four-wheel drive crossover, featuring dual electric motors, will deliver more than 600 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque, propelling the ES8 to 62 mph in only 4.4 seconds.

The ES8 is equipped with a 70kW battery, which is rated to achieve 220 miles, similar to the recently released, and considerably smaller Chevy Bolt EV.

A battery rental subscription, meanwhile, will enable owners to enjoy upgrading services, along with roadside asisstance, car connectivity and nationwide charging services.

Also featured is the NIO Pilot, driver assistance system, NOMI, the world’s first in-car AI system and NIO Power, which allows the ES8’s battery to be swapped in three minutes.

“We hope that we can have more people interested in smart electric vehicles by presenting ultimate products and services, and then we can achieve our vision of bringing back blue skies.” said NIO Founder and Chairman William Li.

“NIO wants people to enjoy owning a car again and aspires to redefine the experience of owning a car. The ES8 launch is another beginning for NIO.”

The ES8 will initially go on sale in China only, with pre-orders already available through its app at a base price of $67,000. Rental options are also available.
